Demonstration of Waves

You can make waves by moving the air with your breath.  You can't see sound waves, but you can see waves in water. Fill a deep container (clear or white work best) with a few inches of water.  Hold a straw in your mouth.  Put the other end just above the surface of the water.  Exhale and watch the waves. Try exhaling faster, slower, harder, more gently.  It can also work in the bathtub if you are sitting very still.
