Bach Yard's Artistic Director and founder Orli Shaham leads a dual life as both internationally renowned concert pianist and parent of young children. A consummate musician recognized for her grace, subtlety and brilliance, Ms. Shaham is in demand for her prodigious skills and admired for her interpretations of both standard and modern repertoire. The New York Times called her a "brilliant pianist," and London's Guardian said Ms. Shaham's playing at the Proms was "perfection."
Inspired by her own children’s experience with music, Orli Shaham founded Bach Yard (formerly Baby Got Bach) in 2010, creating a highly acclaimed interactive concert series for pre-school through early elementary school age children. The concert programs provide hands-on activities with musical instruments, concepts and concert performances that promote good listening skills, and feature chamber music performances by professional musicians with Ms. Shaham as host and pianist.
As a concert pianist, Orli Shaham’s performance schedule brings her to concert halls from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House and most of the major venues in between. Her recordings include the Complete Piano Sonatas by Mozart, Mozart Piano Concertos with the St. Louis Symphony, music for solo piano on Brahms Inspired, and works by John Adams and Steve Mackey with the Los Angeles Philharmonic on American Grace.
Ms. Shaham is also a respected broadcaster reaching millions of listeners on national broadcasts. She is co-host and creative for From The Top, the NPR radio program featuring young classical musicians, hosted America’s Music Festivals, and created and hosted the radio series, Dial-a-Musician, in which she called upon expert musicians to answer listeners’ questions. In her spare time, she serves as chair of the board of trustees at the Kaufman Music Center, one of the premier arts institutions in New York City.
