Activities: LEARN / Instruments: WOODWIND FAMILY

WOODWIND FAMILY

Woodwind instruments produce sound by blowing air through the instrument and are divided into two groups - the flute group and the reed group. Instruments in the flute group make sound when air is blown across an open hole, while instruments in the reed group have a reed, or two, that vibrate when air is blown into them.

“I am a FLUTE! I am made of metal, and I have a series of finger holes which you press when you want to change the notes I sing. I can sing the highest notes of all the woodwind instruments!”

“I’m a BASSOON! I am made of wood, and the sound I make is created by blowing on a tool called a REED. I am part of the double reed family, just like the oboe. I am held to the side, that have a series of finger holes which you press when you want to change the notes I sing. I can sing very low!”
