What you need
a big container to be filled with water (bathtub)
plastic bottles
Straws/piece of hose
Metal mixing bowls or cake pans of different sizes
Metal pot and pan lids of different sizes
Bubbles
Submerge an empty plastic bottle in the water then lift the mouth to the surface and listen to a cascade of bubbles!
Use your breath!
Practice using your breath! Can you make bubbles in the water with your air?
blow through a straw to make bubbles!
Now try humming through the straw! How does your voice sound in the water?
Floating Tin Drums
Take your mixing bowls and place them on the water.
Try tapping the rim of the bowl with a drumstick or chopstick or pencil or stick- whatever you have!
Which size bowl makes the highest sound? Which size makes the lowest?
Now try putting water in the bowls! Repeat the experiment and observe the results!
Put a lid on it!
Take your drumstick/mallet of some sort and one of your metal lids.
Tap the rim to observe how it sounds.
Now fill the lid with a bit of water and tap it again!
How does it sound now?
Hold your lid vertically on the surface of the water.
While tapping the edge, push the lid into the water and listen to how the sound changes!
