Baby Got Bach

Interactive concerts for kids ages 3-6

About

What are Baby Got Bach shows like?

Each Baby Got Bach event begins with active participation - BackStage Up Front - where kids have a chance to play with real musical instruments, conduct sound experiments, and build their own instruments. Then, it is on to the stage to enjoy the MainStage Concert - a listening tour of great live chamber music, featuring Orli Shaham and her friends.

More about Baby Got Bach:

The interactive concert series Baby Got Bach, hailed as "magical" and a "wonderful carnival of musical exploration," was founded by concert pianist Orli Shaham in 2010. As Artistic Director, she draws on both her background as an internationally renowned musician and her experience as the mother of young children. Baby Got Bach's interactive concerts introduce young children to musical instruments, concepts and the experience of concert-going. The concerts feature hands-on activities followed by performances that encourage audience participation and develop listening skills.

The program has been praised in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, New York Magazine, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and New York Family Magazine. Baby Got Bach events feature Orli Shaham as host and pianist, along with a rotating roster of world-class musicians. Guest Artists include violinists Gil Shaham and Adele Anthony, Sō Percussion, Ensemble ACJW, Escher String Quartet, Tessera Quartet, and members of the prestigious 92nd Street Y School of Music faculty. Baby Got Bach has been presented at 92 Y, WQXR's The Greene Space, and Le Poisson Rouge in New York City, Princeton University, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Centene Center in St. Louis.

With a keen interest in developing interactive repertoire for children, Baby Got Bach regularly commissions new works. Recent commissions include "Sneaky March" by Steven Mackey, "The Curious Engine" by Beata Moon, and "City Sounds" by Bruce Adolphe.

Highlights of Baby Got Bach's 2016-2017 season include the organization's fifth season at 92nd Street Y and a return visit to Princeton University's Richardson Auditorium with special guests WindSync.
